History

The 2002/03 season was a strange, stubborn, brilliant one for the Biancocelesti. Sergio Cragnotti's empire was collapsing off the pitch - the president left the club in January 2003 - and the Scudetto-winning squad of 2000 had been steadily sold off. Roberto Mancini arrived as a rookie coach, and somehow Lazio finished fourth in Serie A and reached the semi-finals of both the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup. The engine of it was Claudio Lopez, who scored 15 league goals and 17 in all competitions, playing alongside Sinisa Mihajlovic, Dejan Stankovic, Diego Simeone and a young Simone Inzaghi. The Argentine's number 7 in sky blue is one of the underrated collector's namesets of the early 2000s.
