History

The 1994/95 Premier League season was Coventry City's third Premier League campaign and the first year of their partnership with US sportswear brand Pony, who replaced Ribero as kit supplier.

The Pony design brought a clean, understated polo-collar aesthetic to the Sky Blues — a marked departure from the busier subliminal patterns of the early-1990s Ribero kits.

The 94/95 squad was managed initially by Phil Neal and later by Ron Atkinson. It included Dion Dublin, who arrived mid-season from Manchester United, alongside Peter Ndlovu, Noel Whelan, Steve Ogrizovic, and David Busst.

Coventry finished 16th in the Premier League, continuing the club's pattern of top-flight survival that defined much of their 1990s before eventual relegation in 2001.

The Peugeot sponsor across the chest remains one of the most recognisable mid-90s Premier League sponsor liveries, while Pony-era Coventry shirts have become particularly sought after by collectors of foundational Premier League kits.

Collector Value

A 94/95 Pony Coventry City home shirt in 9/10 condition typically resells internationally in the NOK 1,500 – NOK 3,500 range.

Pony-era Coventry shirts have strengthened in value as collectors of mid-90s Premier League kits increasingly seek out niche, design-led shirts from smaller clubs and short-lived kit partnerships.

The 94/95 home shirt is especially meaningful as the first season of the two-year Pony home design and part of the highly recognisable Peugeot sponsor era.

TheFootballIdiots' NOK 2,299 sits in the middle of the international market for a 9/10 example.

FAQs

Why is Pony a notable football kit manufacturer?

Pony is an American sportswear brand remembered by football collectors for a short but distinctive period in English football kit design during the mid-1990s.

The brand's Coventry City shirts are valued because Pony was an unusual Premier League supplier, and the kits represent a specific, short-lived corner of 90s football shirt culture.

Who played for Coventry City in 94/95?

Coventry City's 1994/95 squad included Dion Dublin, Peter Ndlovu, Noel Whelan, Steve Ogrizovic, and David Busst.

Dublin joined mid-season from Manchester United and would go on to become one of the club's most beloved players. Coventry were managed first by Phil Neal and then by Ron Atkinson, finishing 16th in the Premier League.

Are Coventry City Pony-era shirts hard to find?

Yes — particularly in 9/10 condition. Coventry City had a smaller supporter base than many Premier League clubs, which means fewer surviving examples remain in excellent condition today.

Pony-era Coventry shirts from 1994/95 and 1995/96 are increasingly sought after by collectors of foundational Premier League kits and brand-specific Pony enthusiasts.
