History

Leicester City won promotion to the Premier League through the 1996 play-off final at Wembley, Steve Claridge scoring in the last minute of extra time against Crystal Palace. Martin O'Neill had taken charge that December, and went on to win the League Cup in 1997 and 2000 and take the club into Europe, the most successful spell in Leicester's history before the 2016 title.
